I first tried my hand at DJ’ing back in elementary school discos – let’s just say I probably had more fun than the kids trying to dance… Fast forward to 2008: a friend in Malmö was hosting a release party for an Idolcontestant. The booked DJ called in sick the very same morning, and in a twist of fate I got the call: “You own hundreds of records and know everything about music – you can DJ, right?” Slightly hesitant, I said yes – on the condition that I could bring a friend for backup. We showed up with plastic bags full of CDs, no one really believed it would work out, but somehow it did. And just like that, I was hooked.
Soon after, we pushed our way into a local rock club, and things snowballed quickly. At the time, no one was branding themselves as a rock DJ duo, so we created Twist Action Heroes – “rock’s answer to Rebecca & Fiona.” With promo shots, a website, and a vision, we went from unknowns to being booked 2–4 nights a week within just a few months.
When my DJ partner moved to another city in 2014, I carried on solo under the name Subculture Hero – my online alias since 1998 (and yes, it’s a Backyard Babies track – one of my all-time favorite bands). I kept playing in Malmö until 2016, when I moved to Stockholm. Since then, gigs have been fewer, but bigger and even more rewarding.
With 300+ gigs behind me, I know how to read a room and adapt to both the organizer’s needs and the crowd’s energy. While rock and metal are my specialties, I’ve also spun at corporate events, weddings, birthdays, sports events, openings – you name it. My collection covers everything from the latest chart hits and old school hip-hop to brutal death metal. I love any music that moves people – and nothing beats the joy of filling a dance floor or hearing a whole bar sing along.
